Michigan football in midst of longest conference title drought since 64

Submitted by michfanisbacka… on
Michigan has not won a conference title since 04. The last time U of M went a longer period without a conference title in football was when the wolverines won it in 1950 and did not again until 1964.I have a feeling this will be the longest drought in the next 50 years and that it will end soon.

I know we've only known each other four weeks and three days, but to me it seems like nine weeks and five days. The first day seemed like a week and the second day seemed like five days. And the third day seemed like a week again and the fourth day seemed like eight days. And the fifth day you went to see your mother and that seemed just like a day, and then you came back and later on the sixth day, in the evening, when we saw each other, that started seeming like two days, so in the evening it seemed like two days spilling over into the next day and that started seeming like four days, so at the end of the sixth day on into the seventh day, it seemed like a total of five days. And the sixth day seemed like a week and a half. I have it written down, but I can show it to you tomorrow if you want to see it.

It's not going to be getting any easier going forward.  Used to be able to share titles if both teams had the same records, regardless of head to head (that only determined Rose Bowl bids).  Now you've got to win your division, then win another game.

Would be interestering to find out how many of our titles were outright over the last 50 years...my guess it's a low percentage.

This is such a farce. His little postgame salt fest after blowing a 10 point lead and getting owned by Mike Hart is not what caused our troubles. Abysmal recruiting in Lloyd's final years caused all of this. RR had nothing to work with and if we hired Les Miles, he would've went 7-5 or 6-6 in 2008.

Carr maybe didn't recruit his best in the last couple of years but RichRod was awful at recruiting, every time we needed an OL recruit he went out and got another slot ninja, his recruiting was very unbalanced, that was the biggest problem.

He needed receivers.

Look at Lloyd's 2005-2007 WR signees that RR inherited-

  • 2005: LaTerryal Savoy
  • 2006: Greg Mathews.......that's it. He signed one guy in 2006.
  • 2007: Zion Babb, Toney Clemons, Junior Hemingway

Miles does win more, but it doesn't mean we're better long term.

Miles would've run a system closer to what Carr had, Mallett stays, we're likely at that record WD says. But it doesn't mean we wouldn't have been that for 3-4 years straight and he was fired just like Rich Rod.

Rich Rod was left with shit and made it worse by saying "fuck easing my system in, we're going all in on day 1."

Hoke won early because he said, we're going to go 50/50 in year 1, 25/75 in year two and phase this thing in.

He also had much more talent than Rich Rod had...but best believe, if Hoke had come in and said, we're going to make Denard a dropback passer and run a boring "prostyle" offense. We're not going to the Sugar Bowl.

Hoke got that year by basically running a hybrid of Rich Rod's offense mixed with Borges and then having Mattison run the defense and it worked for a year.

We don't know if Mallett would have stayed. If he'd left, Miles would be looking at a similar record, maybe a little better. There were so many people within the Michigan family who hated Miles to begin with it's very possible would have gone out the same way Rodriguez did. Either way it's hard to complain about much that happened knowing that anything different may very well have prevented us from acquiring Harbaugh

My whole point is this whole notion that dantonio's comments created any "edge" for them in the series is complete crap drummed up by the media. The problems were a 'comin. 2008 was gonna be not good regardless of who was there imo.

I give no shit for us vrs MSU. I give 10million more more shits us vrs OSU. In that game , Mike Hart is as much of a loser as Kirk Herbstreet. Edit: hart was more of a loser than Herbstreet who lost 3 but tied UM one year. Hart, Henne and Carr gave us shit v osu

Sorry, the Purdue and Illinois games were no flukes. They torched our defense.

Especially Purdue. There's no excuse there as we scored our highest total of the season in that game.

What did they run? Spreads with mobile QBs.

Goddam Devotee you are so right! If you did not also destroy my nemesis Dave Brandon, I would say this is the truest thing you ever write. Lloyd after 2001 was just a doormat for USC and OSU, as well as anyone who played the Spread! And he screwed UM in every way possible on his way out. I really like him personally and always have, but what we have been going through for the last 13 years really seeded under Carr. Fuck Dave Brandon

Right, because yelling at his own players which he still does to this day at Arizona, chasing Ryan Mallett to Arkansas where they changed their Spread to fit his strengths, bringing upon sanctions for the first time ever to our program, losing to Toledo amongst many other blown opportunities had nothing to do with it. I think the only cool part was the comeback victory against Wisconsin.

But didn't Dantonio say that "we should have a moment of silence for Michigan" after the App State loss? The players took a knee and had a moment of silence for MSU after they beat them, leading to Hart's comments, as a result of his disrespectful chiming in. All of that was a response to Dantonio's original comments. That's why the whole "pride before the fall" schtick kills me.
