Michigan commits and prospects all star games

Submitted by goblue85 on
This week is the under armour and army all American games. Has anyone seen a list of our commits and potential prospects playing in those games?

I'm not 100% sure on the UA game, but the Army bowl takes nominations and sorts through players based on various qualities, including talent, leadership, etc. I believe the UA game is based more on overall football talent and rankings of the recruiting service connected to the bowl (used to be ESPN, now 247).

Some prospects get offered by both bowls. They choose which one to attend. I've seen players commit to one bowl and then change their commitment, though that doesn't happen often. I don't think they necessarily avoid offering different players, but they can only play in one, so they have to be somewhat picky. It doesn't do either team any good if they both offer the same 90 players.

I love mgoblog, but the recruiting information has taken a huge dive this year. No doubt that in years past you would have been able to find this information in a recent front page article. Hopefully they can turn this around and start putting more of that information out.

Honestly, it's very hard to tell right now whether there are too many diamonds in the rough they're stretching for or not. If Michigan finishes out with Olaijah Griffin, Ja'Marr Chase, and Nick Petit-Frere, then there's some serious star power. If Michigan whiffs and ends up with a couple 3-star prospects they steal from MAC programs, then did they reach too much? It's hard to say Michigan is "reaching" when they just couldn't pull in the higher-rated guys.

It's not a great class. You're right that there's not much star power right now, but I believe the guys currently in the class fit Michigan's system offensively and defensively.

For this being a board of like minded people there sure seem to be a lot of dicks on here, oh shit! Could I be one too. Just help the guy and answer his question

The Army game could be interesting. I think all three of the Michigan guys in that game could see a nice bounce in their ratings with a good performance. They are all a little underrated at this point....IMHO.

They might end up outplaying their rankings, but the only one I see as possibly making a significant leap at the Army Bowl is McGrone. We'll see how he performs. Hutchinson probably isn't going to wow anyone because he's not a great athlete, and I'm guessing Mayfield will struggle in pass protection since he's in such a run-heavy offense in high school.

I don't think they're decreasing in popularity, but the guys in Michigan's class who are participating aren't that exciting. When you don't have a QB, RB, or WR playing, it puts a bit of a damper on the excitement, IMO. And even when Michigan had a couple athletic defensive ends playing last year (Kwity Paye, Luiji Vilain), there was some excitement to see whether they could get to the QB or not. This year, not so much.
