Meta: Site Relaunch Date?

Submitted by Sports on

Just wondering if there was any update on HUEL's progress with the site relaunch and beta testing. I remember a post saying that there were some unforeseen timeline difficulties. Not trying to be snarky at all here, just curious and excited for MGoBlog 3.0!

Every time someone complains about the site or the app a puppy dies. This is far and away the best Michigan sports content available and it's free! Say thank you and stfu or donate.

Wait, are you killing a puppy each time? Because I've been killing a puppy each time someone complains, and I really didn't intend for two puppies to die each time there's a complaint. We really need to coordinate this better.

Of course, that's what has been said for a couple offseasons now, so with everything and everyone that is apparently now on board with this, hopefully it comes in this offseason at the latest if not sooner. I will say, however, that I am at a point where I am just going to try to be pleasantly surprised when / if it happens and free my thinking of a solid timeline. My main concern is what the administrative functions (which let me do what I do) will look like.

As someone who does consulting for software implementations for a living, I can say that schedule delays often come up for a whole host of reasons. Based on the latest update that Seth provided, it sounds like they encountered some unforeseen obstacles and had to adjust their timeline. I am sure that the schedule is very visible to everyone involved in the project work, but it makes sense that they wouldn't share it with the masses.

The best we can do is trust that they are taking their time to release a solid product, rather than rush a subpar solution to Production. I am sure the craziness of the season adds a layer of complexity to everything as well.

We slowed down the whole process because the season started. We're aiming for beta in a few weeks and a bye week release. We've switched from all-hands-on-deck pushing it out to a few key people solving one issue at a time.

The two biggies right now are moving the server to Nexcess, which we did, and moving the Podcasts to Podbean, which is this week's project. The former should have this site WAY more stable and working faster. The latter is the reason for the remaining slowdowns and getting those files off our server should dramatically pick up the speed of the site on days podcasts run.
