Meanwhile, In the Other Tournament...
Quick update on the other tournament which was still happening while we watched that game.
Michigan won earlier today, they play Boston University tomorrow after the Terriers upset #1 seed Cornell in the first game. BU is a whole bunch of talent that never really got their shit together until the Hockey East tournament. But they've won seven of eight (tied the other game) so are pretty hot. That game is at 4 PM tomorrow on ESPN2. The winner will face Notre Dame who won 2-1 to advance to the Frozen Four. We played them really well in all four matchups, so not a disaster for us.
Seeding held to form in the OSU region. Buckeyes play Denver tomorrow at 6:30 on ESPNU. The winner of that game will get Minnesota-Duluth, who beat Air Force 2-1. Our preference is obviously for somebody to beat OSU, as they beat us five times this year.
Summary: ND and UMD are in the Frozen Four, M-BU and OSU/Denver playing to get in tomorrow.

Well, Frozen Four is a week later because college hockey isn't stupid enough to go up against the Final Four.

Happened in the Fab Five years. It was awesome.

This happened in I want to say '94. We kicked LSSU's ass all year. Then lost to them in the first round of the tournament and they went on to win the title.

When we won the NCAA MBB title in 1989, we did it by beating (in the NCAA tourney) an Illinois team that had beaten use both times in the Big Ten season.

Michigan made both FFs in 92 and 93 with, um, unsatisfactory results, so this wouldn't be the first time.
But the hockey team's progress is just icing on what is, for what they have been, a fantastic season. Really impressed at how they locked down Northeastern after Marody scored the go-ahead late in the third. They'll probably still get beaten at some point, but it's fun.
FYI, Michigan's record of 9 national title is in danger if Denver advances. Michigan fans absolutely should pull against Denver tomorrow, regardless of what the jerseys say on the other side of the ice.

How many times have we made the final four and frozen four in the same season?

1964 (won the hockey title), 1992, 1993.
We know what happened in basketball in 92 and 93. Michigan lost 4-2 to Wisconsin in the semifinal in 92 (their first trip to the Frozen Four in quite a while) and lost a heartbreaker to a dominant Maine team led by Paul Kariya in 1993.

making two final fours within 24 hours of each other? This would have to be one of the greatest weekends ever in Michigan sports

Well, needless to say, it was a nice day all around for the Wolverines, and yes, I am kind of not entirely sober at the moment as a result. Granted, that's about 99% because of the basketball game, but I did watch hockey as well today and there were a couple beers raised during the hockey game.

Watching SportsCenter and they kept confusing our win over Northeastern for the regional final win and frozen four berth, and not just the 1st round. I heard them say Michigan was in the final four 3 or 4 times. Whoops

of our simultaneous Final Fours in those years.
6 team NCAA regional at Joe Louis, I was in a suire through a Spartan friend, who gave the rest of the seats to UM haters.
Northen Michigan was up on us 5 to 1 in the first period, we scored with .5 seconds left in the second, and won in the 3rd.
On the TV, we took Ohio to OT before winning.
Yes, it was awesome.
