McGuffie Off and Running at OIympics
The first two runs in the two-man bobsled took place this morning, and Sam McGuffie competed for the first tme as an Olympian. He's now officially the first Michigan football player to compete in the Olympics since 1900.
I don't want to put any spoilers here, because it looks like NBCSN will be broadcasting the bobsled at 1:15 p.m. today. We can all DVR it and switch over during commercials in the basketball game.
The final runs are tomorrow morning at 11 a.m. McGuffie also competes in the four-man bobsled later in the week.

Foreshadowing I hope!

You left me hanging with 1900 reference so I looked it up.
John McLean - All-American halfback for the Wolverines in 1899. Won the silver medal in the 110 meter hurdles in 1900 Olympics in Paris (24 years beffore Chariots of Fire (showing my age)) with time 15.5 seconds according to wikipedia.
I enjoyed watching Sam play football. I hope he does well.

[Removing the duplicate post to acknowledge that people here are very fond of Sam McGuffie and do not want to read dismissive comments about him. Particularly twice.]

NBC has a write up on McGuffie if you're interested.

Well, historically, if the subject of a post has crossed paths with the University Of Michigan at some point, then it isn't regarded as OT. Then again, bobsledding probably would be an off-topic post, but the fact that it is about Sam McGuffie supersedes the whole bobsledding thing.

As LSA points out, if a guy ever played for Michigan, posts about him are not OT. If, for example, Boulderine wants to start an Andrew Dakich Appreciation Thread this afternoon, it wouldn't be OT.

Go get 'em, Sam!

How are McGuffie's abilities at breaking down shitty (city) walls?

I'm assming he transferred because his current coach is a dumbass and kept making Sam repeatedly slam his head off those frozen icy sidewalls.

Does he have to sit out an Olympics? Or does Mongolia offer a program that USA does not?

"He was our 2nd leading rusher behind Minor"
Is that really saying anything?
"If not for concussions"
Which were both bad luck and due to his awkward upright running style.
"And I think Sam still cherished"
Ok.
You sure do have a lot of "what ifs" and suppositions in your argument for McGuffie's relevance to UM football.
I'm not saying he is not interesting to UM fans for having played here, for he obviously, and legitimately, is. But you do him a disservice when you base that interest on quite questionable evidence.

McGuffie played his ass off for that team that year. His concussions were more due to getting killed on routes out of the backfield. Anybody that doesn't think he's a former Michigan player can fuck right off. I don't blame him for transferring that year. RR used him incorrectly, and too much.

Wow, overreact much?

Nobody's making him out to be Tom Brady or Charles Woodson in terms of importance to the program. We're watching the Olympics and we have no clue who any of these dudes are. This is at least one dude we know. That's it.

Just saw it reported that somebody held up a small Michigan flag at the finish line during one of McGuffie's runs. That's cool.

Looks like they will show it during Primetime coverage. Here's hoping fellow AA resident Mike Tirico will mention it.
