Making the case for Cornell Mann

Submitted by ThadMattasagoblin on

There's an obvious choice when it comes to replacing Lavall Jordan on the Michigan staff and he resides in Ames, Iowa. Cornell Mann is an excellent recruiter and is responsible for attracting Monte Morris among others from Michigan to play at Iowa State. He also coached at Oak Park high school and with the Michigan Mustangs AAU team. ISU led the big 12 in scoring for three straight years under his watch and they also made a school record four straight ncaa tourneys. Going with an unproven guy like Chris Hunter or someone else on staff would be a mistake imo when we are at such a critical stage in our basketball program with a clear need in recruiting.

The Cornell Mann Earth Band was a lesser known cover band, somewhat famous for their minor hit "Binded On The Right", which was a song about a production error at a printing facility. It's a shame that it never got wide airplay, but then a similarly named band managed to get a song with a lyrically close title on the radio just a few hours prior to their release.

Monte Morris wasn't exactly a highly sought after recruit.  He was an under the radar recruit, and we already have coaches that can find that kind of talent.  We need a guy that will help us close on the big fish.  He was also defensive coach at Iowa State, and their defense was arguably worse than ours while he was there.  No thanks.

Those were the two guys Beilein wanted. It seemed like a first-come-first-serve situation.  I don't remember how it went down exactly at the end but Beilein definitly wanted both of them (well, one of either).  They were both decidedly ON the radar.

Iowa State fan here. He's not there anymore. Morris was the only successful recruit he brought in and he wasn't a good defensive coach. Doc Sadler was brought in specifically to help on the defensive end when Mann was there. Could he help in Michigan? Maybe but there are better options.

WTH another soccer thread? I know who Manchester is but I have never heard of Cornell. Knowing as little as I know about soccer in general. I really thought that there was a Cornell. If they can name a team Swan City why not Cornell it sounds British enough. Not to hijack the thread but I love watching the highlights of the goal scoring that went on every week.
