Luke Yaklich is the unsung hero of this team.

While Coach Bellein deserves every bit of the credit he gets, and our players deserve all praise, isn't the unsung MVP of this team Yaklich? Without the unprecedented defensive effort and scheme last night, we do not win that game, flat out. Bringing in Yaklich was yet another great move by Bellein, but it is clear that this year's defense is even better than last years improved version, and credit should go to Yaklich. Don Brown=Yaklich?

I'm thinking the over/under on Yaklich threads should be set at 20, just this week alone. There are still many angles to cover--not to mention that jobs will be opening up soon, and there will be threads about him possibly taking every one.

I'm also putting the over/under on HumbleBrag threads at 44. This is the week to get out your shovels and wading boots. Not only will 600 zillion message board guys be converging on San Antonio, but there are all four corners of the Earth for which we will have to dispense advice on how to watch the game.

With his MVC and Illinois high school coaching history, there is no chance he will not have this defense absolutely prepared to dominate the Ramblers. Sorry Sister, In Yaklich we trust.

...personnel changeover and natural progressions.  On defense, swapping out Irvin and Walton for Matthews and Simpson has been huge.  Irvin and Walton worked hard, but they didn't have the quickness and athleticism of Matthews and Simpson.  Wagner is a much better rebounder than last year and still isn't a great defender, but he is better.  The three biggest individual improvements are MAAR, Robinson, and Teske.  Those three definitely took it up a level.  Still, kudos to Yaklich and kudos to Beilein for ceding control and letting the man do his thing.

I'm not sure what you're reading.  Above, he writes:

I agree with that. Walton and Irvin were huge down the stretch and both improved considerably on defense, but Simpson/Matthews are still an upgrade at that end of the court.

Context is everything.  On defense Simpson and Matthews are showing a lot more athleticism and quickness than Walton and Irvin ever did.  That is not a general statement about their athleticism or quickness.

You replied to a post about defensive improvement and posted mostly offensive stats.  Read what he said sir.  The whole post.

From the perspective of the national media, he is unsung. But most Michigan fans that watch more than a game or two have been heaping praise on him. He’s had almost as many threads as JB the last few weeks. I think Haynes is underrated. He helps develop the game plan and I think most of ours have been on point. We’ve just been shooting poorly.

Yaklich is 5 years removed from being a HS coach. Hes coached nothing but defense in his 4 years as an assistant in the MWC and 1 year in the B1G. Hes not going anywhere yet. Unless its to HS or Divison II/III as a head coach.

Yaklich deserves the credit he's being given.

But so do DeAndre Haynes and Saadi Washington.  The guards and the bigs have developed well under their tutelage.

Great, great coaching staff.
