"The source, who is a well-informed person of influence at Notre Dame, says the Cincinnati coach is the preferred choice for the job, and that he is expected to eventually sign a deal." Eventually? This sounds a bit flaky to me.

is this is irish equivalent to TMZ/Perez Hilton?

as soon as yesterday it was reported that Kelly will not talk about other jobs until AFTER Cinci plays Pitt.

Well, it actually just says they want him.

"The source, who is a well-informed person of influence at Notre Dame, says the Cincinnati coach is the preferred choice for the job, and that he is expected to eventually sign a deal."

Of course ND thinks that anyone will sign a deal with them.

Having said that, I was kinda worried when he said today he had no interest in the ND job. That means he's interested.

...he's gone. He's led Cincinnati to being perhaps the best it can be and will probably not be able to keep it up indefinitely. He's signalled his availability and would be a fool not to take a job at a school as prestigious as Notre Dame.

I suspect there is a lot more to do in Cinci than in South Bend, Indiana, a city in decline like much of the midwest due to loss of manufacturing jobs. The biggest problem with Cincinnati is the size of the stadium and, in theory, that may be addressed. Sometimes less is more, but since Kelly hasn't denied anything, I would guess there might be something to the rumor. ND, believe it or not, is not a terribly large school - less than a third the size of Michigan. That reflects on what the area will support in terms of quality creature comfort.

I guess I was implying that their new facility might make it easier to recruit...and based on their #5 ranking, it looks like he might not need much more recruiting.

I guess my point wasn't necessarily directed at you, just a general observation that Cincy might be better than we give it credit for.

But obviously the ND job is still a very attractive one, too.

Relax people. Dude has as much or lesser upside as RR had when he came in. We will be up and running by the time he catches his breath. The Purdue's and MSU's of the world better look out though.

Maybe. Floyd hasn't been able to stay healthy, JC and Golden are gone, Crist had ACL surgery, and BK hasn't shown any ability to coach defense. This transition should go quite a bit smoother than ours, but to say they're going to hit the ground running is a bit ND.

Dwight Schrute: Security in this office park is a joke. Last year I came to work with my spud-gun in a duffle bag. I sat at my desk all day with a rifle that shoots potatoes at 60 pounds per square inch. Can you imagine if I was deranged?

of influence told Herbstriet that Les Miles was going to be the Head Coach at a certain Midwestern University as well.

That appears to have been proven incorrect.

you're saying that any irish fan site that says ND wants Kelly is iron clad proof that he's leaving Cinci to go to SB?

And oh, yeah,
PANIC!!

Um, no?

I just saw a report saying Randy Edsel of U Conn is at the top of the list, until someone signs I'm not going to worry about it. Even then I'm not really going to worry about it, we've always held are own against Notre Dame no matter who they had as coach.

Big J is coming back to the earth to straighten us out, stop terrorist attacks, and try to lead ND football out of the morass it has fallen into.

In reverse chronological order, natch.
