If he's really serious about getting himself together then I wish him the best of luck. Sports are full of great comeback stories, and maybe he could be another great story one day.

I just hope that he's getting clean for himself and not just for football. Because in the event that he can't make it back to the league (and the odds are stacked heavily against him on that), I'd hate to see him completely fall apart again.

are you posting this to mock him for trying to better himself? It seems like you are wanting him to fail without actually stating it. Such as, by asking for bets on how long this "come back" will last. If the guy is trying to make amends, get his life together, and work towards being successful, I think people hating on that are even bigger jerks than he was. I'm not trying to change anybody's mind, some people will only see him as an entitled brat. It will never be cool to me for anyone to want someone else to fail in their recovery. Neg away if you must.

I haven't seen this before, it's certainly interesting, although I wonder how much comes from that Deadspin story.  The thing about Manziel is that he comes from this background where there's no real indication of wealth.  Comfort maybe, but not that kind of money.  Then he hits it big and starts hanging out with celebrities, spending money, etc.  He gets caught up in an autographs for cash scandal and suddenly his family are oil tycoons from way back.  That's certainly convenient.

Not sure how betting he will be successful is ruled out by the OP.

I didn't intend to hurt any feelings, just shared an article about Johnny's attempt to make a come back.    Just as 60%+ of marriages end in divorce, its quite possible that his attempt will not be successful.  By making that statement, I am not wishing divorce on anyone, just making a statement.

Throwing it out there for conversation, no intent to hurt feelings, wish gloom and doom or offend.

I hope your day looks up from here.

You twice made reference to his come back in a negative light in your OP. Will he be able to resist temptation in Austin? How long do you think it lasts? Most who read those statements would see those as negative. Statements like, Austin will be a good test of commitment to his come back. Or a question like, where do you see this ending up for Johnny Football? These are not negative in connotation. So while you may not be directly stating "I hope he fails", it is going to read that way to most people. This is a message board, it can be difficult to communicate things using only words. Also, since you haven't stated your opinion, if your post reads negative, I have to believe that you indeed think he fails and/or are not wishing him well. In other news my day is fine, just because someone is confused or questions you on the internet doesn't mean their day isn't going well or that their feelings are hurt, or that they are offended. My day was looking up when I woke up this morning, have yourself a Coke and a smile.

for generic message board comment used by lots of people on message boards. Unfortunately, most of the parties I attend are for my two year olds friends. But I do like to turn up with sugar free juice boxes, fruit snacks and cake. Sometimes, I catch a break and the party is hosted at a bowling alley or restaurant with adult bevs.

but Spring high school football is just around the corner in Texas.   How is spring football in Michigan?

not entirely sure there is.  This could be a Constanza-type plot.  Like, where Constanza just "showed up" for work when the boss was out of town.  Here, Manziel plays in the "Spring League,"  so when he tries to make his real comeback he can say I did fine in the "Spring League."  Could be brilliant.

Another Costanza comparison you could make would be to La Cocina, his off-off Broadway play that didn't exist, or his architecture career or his education as a marine biologist.

He appears to be serious about dealing with the alcohol issues.  Even more encouraging, he appears to have identified underlying psychological issues, which is consistent with his account of self-medicating.  When he's on, he's a fun player to watch, and I'd like to see what he can do with a clean body and his head on straight.

They apply to jobs and work hard to get back where they were. Johnny goes on a media tour and says he wants to play football. Good for him if he got himself together, but I don't see how this helps his overly-privelaged ass.

People aren't touching him because of his past actions and the fact that he has been out of the league for 2 years, not because of some media tour. He is doing whatever he can to try and get people to believe him when he says he is working on getting his life back on track, can't fault a man for that. In going with your analogy, if he was truly as "overly-privelaged" as you say he is, don't you think he would be putting out an "NFL or bust" persona? The fact that he is taking a chance at the football equivalent of a stepping stone job is a step in the right direction.

I've never been the biggest fan of his, but people that are beating him up for his current actions are just wanting to beat him up no matter what he is doing, the guy seems to be trying to improve himself, I for one will root for his success in doing so.

I wish him the best. If he has been properly diagnosed as bipolar, and he didn't know it before, this is a tremendous breakthrough and could lead to proper medication and treatment. I really hope to see him succeed because he is fun to watch.

He was an exciting college football player. As much as I thought the guy was a jerk, I'd watch him beat 'Bama any day. The margin for error in the NFL is very small, even for guys with more god-given NFL-translatable talent than him.
