Jim Tressel is a Free Man this Week

Submitted by FauxMo on

After five years of hard labor in the worst place in the world (i.e. Youngstown, Ohio), Coach Jim Tressel - formerly of THE Ohio State University in THE State of Ohio - will see his 5-year show-cause penalty end this week.

So, here's the question... Does anyone else think he ends up back in coaching? Honestly, I could see it. Yes, he's the president of a university now, and that's not a bad gig, but you have to think that a guy with that much ego and that much lust for unfair competition, who still has so many tattoos and cars to give to young disenfranchised men just trying to make their way in the world, he's gotta miss the game.

I'm still baffled that any university would want him around any of their students, let alone student-athletes.. but yeah, someone will give that scumbag another coaching gig.

but he wasn't really doing him any favors. Look instead at how the tutor that blew the whistle on his academic cheating was treated. This is a man who cheated relentlessly his entire career and people that got in his way were not treated well. I think his players generally were though. One thing he didn't do was oversign and cut players.

Tressel just turned 64 and that isn't young for a coach to be starting out at a major program.  He has been away from the game for five years and left OSU with a bunch of money.  I'd be surprised if he jumps into coaching again, but who knows.

The cover up was worse than the crime. Honestly, as big of idiots as guys like Posey, Herron and Pryor were, they didn't do anything that a lot of guys didn't do before them at countless other schools. They were just the ones that got caught. Doesn't make it right, but when you compare them to what happened at Miami, Penn State and Baylor, they're choir boys.

Had Tressel not tried covering it up, he likely would still be coaching there.

That's what happens when you win and when you beat your rival consistently. You're given the benefit of the doubt every single time.

If Tressel had been another John Cooper, he would've been run out of town and probably not welcomed back. Let's put it this way: he certainly wouldn't have been paraded around the stadium to a standing ovation less than two after he disgraced the entire program.

It's easy to forgive things when you win.
