Im still on Cloud Nine

Submitted by Wolvie3758 on

I am STILL on Cloud 9...I live in Atlanta and attended both the semis and Final!..I was SO PROUD of this team, the coach, the players and the fans..It was CLEAR to me that Michigan fans showed up in droves in Atlanta and we had the most fans of any school. I still cant believe we made it this far and how GREAT was it to be in it till the end and not just home watching someone else...When I walked into the Georgia Dome and saw all the Maize throughout the Stadium and I mean ALL THRU THE STADIUM it reminded me of why....

ITS GREAT TO BE A MICHIGAN WOLVERINE !!!!!...way to represent i n Atlanta Blue fans!!

WELL DONE!!!

Overall it is still pretty positive that this team made it this far. I think this run could be considered a bit of an overachievement. It just really sucks to make it to the final and lose. Had this team been a little older it would have been a victory. Maybe enough pieces stay together to make another run. Louisville made it far last year and came back to finish the job this year, so getting to the final game could provide enough motivation for the remaining individuals to get back to it.

I'm not sure where I am cloud-wise, but I'm sure as shit not productive at work right now.  I feel like all of us should have treated ourselves to yesterday off for emotional preparation and today off for emotional recovery.

I'm so proud of this team for getting to the game that no one thought they would make. Of course a win would have been much better, but they played their asses off and gave everything they had. The future is looking bright for the BB and FB programs and it truly is GREAT to be a Michigan Wolverine.

Anyone hear if Burke or Timmmay is coming back? I hope this motivates Trey to come back, seeing how close they were this year and what they have coming back.

by showing up at work today as proud Michigan fans. It was a great game that we can always remember and be proud of the young men and coaches that represented Michigan.

You cant forget where weve been the last decade...all that is O V E R....Belien is building a juggernaut at Michigan and this season was the breakthrough....We are going to be making serious DEEP runs in the NCAA the next few years...Ive been around for a long time I know a trend when I see one....All these freshman just got the biggest tournament experience you could possibly ask for AND they performed BRILLIANTLY

It's a tough spot. I was and continue to be surprised that they made it so far - not that they weren't just as good as any other team but because of their slide into the tournament and my lowered expectations. That said, it's frustrating as hell to experience yet another loss in a big game. I feel like we can't catch a break as Michigan fans. I could be over-doing it but that's how it feels.

what you mean.  We win big games, but we don't win the games.  03 Rose Bowl, 06 Ohio State, 2011 Michigan State game (football), last night.  I guess the Sugar Bowl was the exception but what really is the Sugar Bowl.  I would really like to win that game sometime soon.

You can really piss off MSU and ND fans by mentioning that each school has never won a BCS game. So there is that.

I agree about not catching a break. Outback Bowl, games against Ohio State, etc. I am proud that this team was able to make this run. However, for some reason the ability to close out big games is just not there for football or basketball. I understand this is a very young team but other teams with young players have won before.

GR3 said last night he is coming back.  We'll see if he takes some time to think about it now. I have a feeling Burke is gone, but everyone else will come back.  In which case, I like the look of the team next year.

I'm not even in the clouds.

I'm sick.

I'm more sick today than I was last night. I don't think I slept one minute last night because my mind was racing.

I'm not just sick because we lost. I'm sick that the refs didn't give us a shot to win the game. I'll never know how that game would've turned out had the calls even been remotely "okay."

But that not all...I'm not just sick because of the game and the refs. I'm also sick because it's over. Basketball is done for the year. Football is over. Denard is gone, Trey...by all accounts is gone. I'm not a huge baseball fan unless I'm actually at a game or it's the playoffs, the NBA finals are okay, but Michigan Athletics is all done for me.

That's what's most depressing. Immediately after football, I switched in to basketbal and it was awesome. There was no time to sulk or grieve from football as we were undefeated on the court. Now what? Back to the real world I guess.

Sure I have the spring game, but I don't really care that much this year. Nothing on the football roster is really going to matter until fall camp when freshman arrive or RS freshman progress. Right now we've got guys who are either entrinched in their position, or they're Matt Vogrich starting until someone is ready to take it over from them (i.e. RB or WR). There isn't much to discuss in terms of football until will get the entire team and we're about a week and a half into camp.

That said, I'm no longer in the clouds. It sucks down here. It's been a great year for Michigan Athletics and I'm proud of all of our teams and excited to see what the future brings. I just wish the future was now.

It sounds crazy, but the only way I think this feeling goes away is if Burke, THJ, GRIII, McGary and Morgan have made their decisions and Irvin, Walton and Donnel are all on campus and working out with the team. Shane, Green and the freshman are deep into fall camp and we're a couple weeks away from our first game.

Why can't today be August 9th? I miss it already.

geez, if anyone out there was on some cloud, you just enticed them to jump off it! Just walk away from it all until the loss slips away, then look at it again. Youll be proud of your basketball team and pumped for insignificant news out of spring practice like always

It's just about the season truly being over.

This was one of the more fun years I've EVER had as a fan. Football until Denard's injury, and even after it. And all season in basketball.

We've been blessed to be interested and engaged since August. By engaged, we're always going to be fans...but it's always different when you're in season. It's even more different when you're playing well and playing for something.

I don't see how it's weird for me to feel this way after I've been so deeply interested in something for so long.

On a much smaller scale, it's the same thing at work sometimes. I'll have a project that I've been working on for months, putting everything I have into it and then I'll turn it in and it's over. The next day at work you're kind of like "well, what do I do now?"

You find another project or wait for the next one to roll around. Same here, we wait until next year. But it's less than 12 hours from the "end" and you want me to feel normal about everything? No.

Michigan athletics has spoiled me this year, I want to be interested like I was since August every day. Not over board, not "FIRE BEILEIN!" after a loss, not burning couches are MF'ing everyone on MGoBlog...just interested.

But again, it's not even 12 hours later. I don't want to use the word "dedicate" because that sounds like I came back from war or I was actually playing on the team. But when you're invested like we all have been for so long...it sucks when its over for a lot of people. I'm one of those people.

I'll be fine in couple weeks, weather will be nice, I'll find something else to take up that time and interest...but as for 12 hours later, no, I'm not in the clouds by any stretch of the imagination.

To you about refs. My least favorite talking point about refs is that "they should let the players decide the game." Here is why I hate it:

The only way a ref decides the game is if they get calls objectively wrong. If a player commits a foul, he is actively committing a foul and thus actively deciding the game. If there is contact down low that is a foul, regardless of whether or not it is a physical game, then the refs should call a foul 100% of the time. Not calling that foul is not letting the players decide the game, it is the refs deciding the game.

What we watched last night was a mugfest by both teams down low. It was so sloppy down low and I thought Burke or one of our players was at risk of getting seriously injured. At the same time, I thought we got away with murder down low as well. It wasn't fun to watch as a fan of clean basketball. And when they called that foul on burke's block all the joy in my life was erased for like 30 seconds. And I'm still sad. Rant over.

And that's my point 99% of the time, I usually ALWAYS agree with you. I f-ing HATE when people complain about the refs. This is that 1%

I said this yesterday. If that Morgan play is called a block and we lose...people go nuts on here, I would not have said one word about the refs.

In the KU game McGary got all ball...I got negged for mentioning that they did go hip to hip a little bit so maaaaaaybe it was a foul. It definitely wasn't 100%.

My issue with yesterday was on the calls that were 100%.

That was 100% a goaltend. That was 100% a kicked ball. That was 100% a foul on Hancock when he tripped and took out Morgan's legs.

I could go on and on and on. And the 100% level bad calls took at least 4 points off the board for Michigan and gave Louisville at least 3 points.

I'm not going to talk about how the Burke foul where Hancock leaned into him or the Burke foul where he got a clean block completely changed the game. I can't speculate on how many points that did or did not cost Michigan. But those other things (i.e. the goaltend) were 100% solid and could not be argued any other way. THAT'S what I'm referring to. Not a charge/block on Morgan (Syracuse game) or a block/foul on McGary (KU game).

If it's subjective, I always let it go as "part of the game." They blantant missed a number of calls last night that may have changed the outcome.

All in all, that wasn't really the point I was trying to make, but I felt like I need to clear that up so it didn't seem like I was completely whining about the refs. The fact that Michigan Athletics is pretty much over is was sucks the most, and only winning last night would've made the fact that is it over..."okay."

decide the game?"  Was calling a foul on McGary's clean block "letting the players decide the game?"  Was calling a foul on Trey when Hancock jumped sideways into him letting the players decide the game?"

I call BS on the meme that the officials "let the players decide the game."

I'm sorry to say that I hate your enthusiasm, I feel like a guy that just watched his team lose the national championship at the Georgia Dome. Regardless of the accomplishments I am bitter at the world. I hated watching all the Louisville fans celebrate and seeing their smug face at the airport. There is a time to sit and be proud of what the players accomplished, but today is a day of mourning.

I really wasn't sure how we were going to play after ending the season 6 and 6.  The kids, hubby and I just got back from Spring Break and loved seeing all the maize and blue all over Florida....joined the entire crowd in the ESPN club in Disney in a round of "Hail to the Victors" after destroying Florida on Easter Sunday.  I know we all wanted that win last night, but holy cow, what a run!!   I've got my Michigan shirt on today and I'm all "We're number 2!  Suck it, everyone below us!!"

The team should be so proud of how they represented the University and how they have made Michigan Basketball relevant again.

Burke will leave ... what more does he have to prove(besides a national championship) he has racked up every award possible in his 2 seasons.

Tim Hardaway Jr. should come back ... but may leave to pursue an NBA career

Glen Robinson & Mitch McGary would both serve well if they came back for one more year.

All in all I believe we lose 2 of the 4 players my guess would be Burke & Hardaway.

If you lived in Louisville, you wouldn't be. I got maybe 3 hours sleep. The party didn't start until after the game. Damn kids. Get off my lawn, etc.

Good for them though. It's been a while and their main rival is that guy who pays recruits and gets 5 of the top 6 national recruits every season.

I don't think we will be seeing Louisville win another one for a while...

Not bitter though. Nope, not me.

I'm just kind of numb. I'm not in punching kitten mode the way some certain fanbases would be, but this sting will not go away for awhile; especially knowing that we were the better team for over half of the game.Elite program or not, it so hard to win it all in this sport. Where was Duke, UNC and KU? That's right, watching from home. Like another poster said, the tourney is very brutal and unpredictable, which is why it hurts so bad to know how close we were only to fall short. I hurt for the kids because they busted their asses and fell short. I hurt for Coach B because the man is pure class and a great coach, and deserves to be among the elite, unlike some slimeball that pretty much runs a minor league team and has fucked over every program he's coached at. That's why I can say it is nice to see the other school in Kentucky win it. I know the hurt will go away, and there sure to be more good times in store, but for now, this sucks.
