Hockey Thread? Hockey Thread.

Did not see a hockey thread anywhere. First game of the season for UM Hockey. Playing at St Lawrence. UM up 2-1 after 2. Goals from Calderone and Hughes, both on the PP.

The team isn't going to be an offensive juggernaut, but better effort in the defensive end compared to last year.  Hughes might be only 17, but he looks like the real deal.

3-1 is the final, Mel starts off 1-0. St Lawrence finished 23rd in RPI last year, were 17-13-7. So seem to be an above average team, good for the resume.

That game was a thing of beauty.

We would've either went into OT or lost last year if we went up 2-0 on the road and then gave up a goal right after scoring our 2nd.

Very similar to Harbaugh's first game, you can immediately tell the difference.

Got Clarkson tomorrow night on the road. They just upset PSU. Would be a great opening weekend.

Only two Michigan head coaches have had their debut games on the road. Red Berenson and Mel Pearson. And they both won.

And just think. Piazza and Pastujov didn't even play tonight.

Here's to the start of hopefully the greatest era in Michigan Hockey!

GO BLUE!!!!!

Any road win is a good win. A great start after last season. Special teams were the difference, and that might be the order of the day for a team with some frontline holes: defend and grind and get goals when they can. Won't be the best year aesthetically, but disciplined play and results will be a great upgrade from most recent vintages.

A road victory. Hopeful that we can beat Clarkson tonight in Potsdam, NY. The team then gets a nearly two week rest until they host Vermont for two games in A2 on the 20th and the 21st. GO BLUE!!!

Haven't seen Corsi numbers, but Michigan outshot St. Lawrence 27-24.  Wonder when was the last time we held what seems to be a real team (based on last year's record) under 25 shots.

The Corsi numbers:  Michigan 44, St. Lawrence 43.  So I guess the other question now is whether Michigan had a plus Corsi for a road game at any time last season.

And the answer to your question depends on whether or not Michigan State is a "real team."  I vote no.  The last time Michigan held what I would call a "real team" to under 25 shots was November 21, 2015, when Michigan outshot Boston University, 38-21.

The only other teams Michigan held to under 25 shots since then were Wisconsin in 2015/16, Lake Superior in 2016/17, and Michigan State in 2016/17--all of those opponents were in the midst of losing seasons and coming off of losing seasons.

That BU game in 2015 was also the last time Michigan held a road team--any road team, no matter how awful--to under 25 shots.
