Yeah there’s no need for the scorn. I still think Greg Frey is a really good football coach, his system and style was just not a fit for our personnel. He prefers lighter guys who can pull and move, it’s more of a natural fit for a spread system, should transition well with Taggart’s offense. He’s put some lightly recruited linemen in the NFL, and I respect his track record, it just didn’t work for this team, this year. My only heartburn is we recruited a couple tackles in the Frey mold, who may or may not fit our new running system.

Sure, he was a bust here, but that doesn't mean he's a bad coach.  He wasn't OC.  He had to work within the system.  He just wasn't a fit with the other parts.  And he seems like a good guy.

I'm glad that Harbaugh acts quickly when guys aren't working out.  But I say we give him a firm handshake and wish him well, I see no reason to do otherwise

Another “too many cooks in the kitchen” type of thing, where one line gets two different philosophies thrown at them. I’m sure they practice multiple looks, but maybe there was too much confusion, leading to what we saw this season from that unit. Good luck to him though

...has basically turned into the Lions fan base. There's always a new scape goat. Rich Rod, Hoke, GERG, Al Borges, Doug Nussmeier, Greg Frey, Tim Drevno. The list rolls on. Anyone ever think maybe the problem runs deeper than a couple position coaches or nah?

of the cult of personality.

Ever since Bo died, we have been struggling to establish an identity.   Every program has suffered through it sometime.

Now it's our turn  I think we are battling our way out of it.

It's not going to get any worse I don't think

I honestly think hiring RR killed the program. It let Mork build up MSU and gain important recruiting footholds in the state of Michigan. The sweater vest basically kept Ohio closed off and steered guys to Mork. Michigan is still trying to recover.

Real original reply. I had season tickets to Michigan football for over 20 years but finally decided not to renew. People regularly insult me on here and I never reply, but this is some horseshit. I am not and never have been an MSU fan.

Maybe not an MSU fan, but you're not bright enough to see that Dantonio's initial success came on the back of 2- and 3-star run-off that Michigan and Ohio State didn't want.

Seriously, how many *(@$ing times does that need to be reviewed on this board?

Dork’s original success was due to Michigan hiring RR, which led to a lot of talent leaving that didn’t fit his style. Three years of zone read and the 3-3-5 is what put Michigan in the hole they are still trying to dig out of. RR didn’t recruit instate well, which led to Dork taking over the state recruiting.

From an institutional perspective, Bo's death allowed for successive astoundingly bad hires, which wasted most of a decade and allowed OSU and MSU to fortify their positions. Harbaugh is a good coach, but he's no miracle worker. He's doing the best he can with patchwork OL and QBs. But his is a 20-year plan, not a five year plan.
