Golf Course Tailgate Question for MSU

Submitted by Hail-Storm on

I'm planning a tailgate for the MSU/ Michigan Game.  I've tailgated 3:30 games before, but never a night game.  I have a spot I like off of the State Street entrance and want to try to get it, but with lots of little kids, I don't want to have to be there too early.  Have you found that night games means later times for the golf course to fill up? The UofM sight says the gates open at 7, so I assume that they have not delayed opening for a night game.

Thanks for any feedback and help.

I was at, I think, two night games tailgating on the golf courses (AAGO is my fave). The late start had almost no bearing on when the courses filled up. In other words, people were there at 6, 7, 8 AM drinking alllllll day...

I dumped the Dope

When I was a kid, growing up in Ann Arbor, I actually did "dump the dope" which means that I picked more cfb games correctly as opposed to the "Dope", aka Wayne DeNeff.

It was very small-town, old school thing where you clipped the form out of the Ann Arbor News, (which still rolled out of the bldg at Division and Huron) licked a stamp and sent it in.

from the university was that if you are on the golf course that you leave all couches, love seats, sofas, sectionals and anything not made of hard plastic, metal or inflatable at home.

They have said parking opens at noon for night games before. The only time I paid attention to that and showed up at 11. Was shut out at AAGO and pioneer for the first under the lights. My advice... arrive early and get your spot as the lots will be opening early.

I have been to every night game at Michigan Stadium so far and when I arrived for the first UTL I was going by the noon reports. When I arrived just before noon the traffic was backed up for miles and the lots were already filling up..

People will arrive early and there is no way AAPD and Public Safety will allow hundreds (thousands?) of cars to back up traffic on the main roads for hours. They will open the lots before noon.

Has anyone ever watched the game on TV from the parking lot? Does the crowd noise affect the experience because you will hear them before you see the play.

Depends where you are on the golf course. If you are over by State St. then you may not hear it if the TV is loud enough. Set up a tent with sidewalls between the TV and stadium. Throw in some generator noise and you may be able to drown out the stadium. It's a good 7-10 second delay.

We always do AAGO and have done so for two of the three night games.  For UTL-1, rain closed much of the course, so we wound up tailgating in some random house/yard by the stadium.  For UTL-2 and PSU, AAGO was going off for HOURS.  Some folks at the tailgate next to us passed out before the game started, lol.

And has been posted, the Noon open is conciding with the night kick off.  That's the same amount of tailgate time as the typical 8am open for a 3:30pm kick.

CANNOT WAIT!!!

Season pass holders get in at 11:30. The general public will get in at noon. AAPD will not allow a line for more than 30 minutes prior. You will be waived off this year if you try to line up on the streets prior to 11 am.

Opening for season pass holders hasn't worked out well for other UTL games. Not enough time to get those people in as others who aren't season pass holders interfere with the process. They really need to open up at 11:00 am for season pass holders to make process a little smoother.

would work better. If AAGO would open a gate at 10 while the AAPD screened vehicles to prevent those w/o passes from lining up until 11, it seems to me it would go MUCH smoother. By waiting until 11 or later to admit the pass holders, everyone else is coming in to line up at both golf courses,Pioneer HS,and all the University-controlled lots, and we have instant gridlock.

agree with the others technically it is noon but honestly man I'd say show up around 10 or 11 at the latest even if you just drive in circles for two  hours. I showed up for the ND game years back at 1145 and sat in traffic on the highway until about 130. I remmeber it clearly because I had to piss so bad from drinking so much coffee on my trip from columbus I tinkled in a gatorade bottle sitting in traffic.

I'm going to plan on pulling up to the exit around 10-1030 this time.
