Early Games Open Thread

Submitted by Naked Bootlegger on

This is a safe haven where you can cast appropriate aspersions at Michigan State.

Or analyze the IU-Wisconsin game for scouting tidbits.

Or tell us what you're drinking after the early morning drinking thread.

There was a time when this was the correct answer for me, but it's not any longer, and may never be again.  I've grown to hate Penn State and all of their JoePa loving deniers more than perhaps any other program and now root against them in every game, regardless of the season's context.

The answer is MSU. They are our bigger rival, they currently control their own path, and seeing them in another Big Ten Championship  game and possibly another playoff should get you to that answer quickly. Penn State getting there once or MSU twice before we do? Pretty easy call.

That may be true but is mostly irrelevant to my overall point. They are our in-state rival, a team we directly compete with for state of Michigan recruits. I want them to lose every game they play and I sure in the hell don't want them in another Big Ten Championship game.

And I would argue that we don't need to add a 4th team to what is currently a big 3 recruiting wise in OSU, PSU, and Michigan. We need to take care of home first.

Also, if Penn State wins it sucks but we don't live with a bunch of Penn St. fans. We live and work with a bunch of MSU fans.

Any one of the other 3 major teams in our division are just as likely to prevent us from winning in the next 5 years. In fact, we have still out-rectuited MSU over the years yet they beat us. So it isn't just about recruiting. There are several factors.

To each his own. I see MSU as our main rival even though people around here wish it was still OSU.

Ah. Ok. That makes a little more sense then. Because for people who grew up around Michigan it was always OSU, ND, and then MSU. But now it isn't like that no matter how many people on here say it is. The reality is more like MSU and OSU on one level and ND/PSU on another.

MSU rivalry is not on the level of OSU no matter how bad you want it to be. We beat MSU last year and no one gave a shit, it was more a sigh of relief than being happy. You only care about them because we keep losing to them and it's embarassing. How excited were you for the week before the game this year when you thought we would win. There was no buzz this year at all because MSU fans could not talk shit.  They are douchebags and it's a rivalry, but it does not even compare to OSU.

Great. Thanks for the opinion. We all have one. Now quit telling me what the fuck I care about.

FYI: It's usually a better sign of a rivalry when it isn't completely dominated by one side. I don't like it either but we actually have to win a little more to keep calling it that.

teling you what you care about like you just fucking did before me?  FYI that same shit can be said about MSU, we havent beat the last decade so I guess thats not a rivalry either. 2-8 or 1-9..so we have no rivals. You don't get to make up stupid rules that because we have stunk we dont get to call OSU our rival, that is how Sparty douches talk trying to justify their obsession.

MSU right now is much more important than OSU.

OSU is so far above Michigan's level, it's not even something I think about in terms of being competitive.

If you can't handle your own state, why even consider outside of the state?

Here's the facts: MSU's owned Michigan for the last 10 years. To say it's not an important rivalry is a fucking joke.

I agree. We haven't been favored or expected to beat OSU in forever, but MSU on the other hand. All of this is because of Dantoni. We can't recruit Ohio, like we used to, and we actually have recruiting battles in the state now, because MSU has been kick our asses lately. It might suck to admit, but it's MSU, OSU, and whoever you want to put 3rd and 4th. The OSU rivalry was big nationally, because it used to be for the Big Ten, but since we now have a conference championship, that's no longer an issue.

Living in West Michigan, I hate Sparty far more than any team in the nation! They have the most arrogant, obnoxious, POS fans that I have ever come across!! They think that just because they’ve been competitive for the last 10 years they have this decades long tradition of being an elite program! F SPARTY!! I want them to lose every single game on their schedule no matter what sport they’re playing!!

I hear you.   So how about if Wisconsin scrapes by IU today, continues their conquest of the B1G West by barely beating Iowa, then gets exposed by us at Camp Randall in a few weeks?  I won't mind that scenario.

But I still won't mind IU hitting them hard on the chin today.
