Did anyone else hear Braylon Edwards yesterday
I guess Braylon will be doing a weekly guest appearance on the Mike Valente show every Thursday at 5:00pm on 97.1 The Ticket in Detroit, and yesterday he was on fire with the wildest "takes" Just a few that I heard, and feel free to add if you heard him.
1. He is obviously red assed about KeKoa Crawford wering the #1. Said it's "Jim's thing" and he feels that a player should have to earn it, the way Carr made him earn it.
2. No defensive player should ever wear that number.(#1)
3. Brandon Peters should be starting: Anyone that saw the spring game, and some fall practice knows that Peters is the best QB on the team.
4. Rashan Gary needs to get in shape: He takes plays off and doesn't spend maximum effort on every play
5. Jim needs to utilize the TE's more to open things up for the WR's: They need to incorporate more crossing routes for the TE's.
6. Wilton Speight is what he is: "The so called QB guru" thinks he can make Speight into something he isn't capable of being.
Those are just a few I can remeber off of the top of my head. I've never really been a big Braylon fan, from the time he tried to Hi Jack the #1 for his own selfish purposes, to some of his comments during the RR era, but this is on another level.

Wasn't he supposed to have a role with this team in some capacity? I thought I remember Harbaugh saying that at Signing of the Stars, especially since BE was taking classes here at the time. Maybe that didn't pan out and as a result Braylon is extra salty.

and that is ex fb players are as likely to bitch and there personal grudges will make them sound as dumb as any of us fans when we're pissed. I recall all the times when M fans would bitch about Big John and the conspiracy going on that kept him as the starting qb. I thought, probably just like Braylon, that they were keeping him with the first team so we would have a better chance of losing. Nothing else really makes sense.

First off, there were a lot of media members saying that UM should be #1 after the bowls if we beat USC like we beat OSU. We would have beaten the #2 and #1 team in the country in successive games. So there was a lot to play for.
Secondly, that drop could have put us up 7-0. The drive resulted in a blocked FG attempt and USC scored on their possession. That was a huge momentum swing. Then a pass bounced off his foot for an interception that USC was able to convert to into another TD. He didn't throw the pass, but it looked like he took the play off and the pass hit his loafing foot.
We had a team that could hang with USC, but those two gaffes eliminated whatever margin we of error we had.

actual play in that game was more even than many remember. USC made a couple of exceptional offensive play calls in the first half for big chunks. Even late into the second half, Michigan had an opportunity to make it a one possession game. I thought Braylon's drop in that game was as significant as any drop in a football game that I have seen.

Your description of the INT off of Braylon's foot was not how I remembered it--I didn't think he was loafing on that play. So I went back and watched it.
The play occurs at 20:04 of this VIDEO. Braylon is running what looks like a skinny post, and the ball is thrown low and behind him. It looks to me like the ball is released before he has turned to look for it, and when he does he slows up but to maybe attempt a catch and then just kind of lets it go. Of course it winds up pinging off his heel and getting picked...
On review I can totally see how you interpreted this as loafing. I kind of think he just misjudged the ball, but I guess you would want to see him at least try and turn his body and reach for the ball--or at least make sure the thing hits the damn ground? Maybe I am inclined to give him a break because (i) he's Braylon, (ii) usually when WRs loaf, it's on plays where they aren't getting the ball, and (iii) it was such a strange play?
That was such a frustrating Rose Bowl. We couldn't get a break and couldn't protect Navarre.

that interception off his foot was a fluke, yeah, but i can't give him a total pass.
well, i guess i don't agree 100%. more like 90%...we lost that game because we do what we always do - we played like we had a potato lodged in our throats. pete carroll realized he couldn't run on us, and gave it up at halftime. we weren't getting blown out, so we just kept doin' same old, same old.
September 8th, 2017 at 3:36 PM ^
3-3 at halftime. Nobody could do anything on offense so he aired it out and we stayed conservative until it was too late. And by then we had to leave a TE to block because USC could unleash their ferocious pass rush without threat of the run.

Braylon was a great receiver for us, I loved watching him play. I'm not about to diminish what he accomplished here just because he's not 100% all in with Harbaugh's style and choices.
He's mainly peeved because he set up a scholarship for the player who wins the #1 jersey. He's still very much a Carr disciple and is kind of stuck in that era. And yes he was also pissed that M didn't offer his brother Berkley, who played for a minute at Minnesota.

sure that one stipulation of his weekly appearances is that he has to be as negative about Michigan as possible in order to generate "angry ticket texts" and make Michigan fans look as unreasonable as possible. That is the only reason Michigan is discussed on the show. Braylon probably said "sure" because he isn't particularly relevant anywhere right now.
I can see Valenti struggling in this market now. The professional sports teams in this city are not particularly worth discussing and Michigan State football had been propping up his shows for a while and that is over now. Really, the only angle he has right now is passive-aggressive anti-Michigan. And when Michigan starts kicking everybody's ass, that angle will not play anymore. He is also engaging in race-baiting political discussions now which tells me that he is really reaching for content to fill shows up.
I don't know the details of his arrangement with 97.1, if he is under contract or anything like that, but my guess is that he will bolt in the near future if something reasonably comparable arises in a different market.

sat in at practices to come to the conclusion that Peters is the best QB or is he basing it on the spring game where Peters played against the twos?

You're supposed to earn it like Tyrone Butterfield.
September 8th, 2017 at 10:55 AM ^
I probably would've gotten all bent out of shape as well. He worked his ass of to earn that number and it clearly meant a lot to him. For the next coach to come in and not continue that tradition is a slap in the face. Also, he thought his brother was a better player than he actually was and he wanted him to play for his alma mater. I think most of us would've felt the same way as Braylon in both of these instances, we just may not have been as outspoken about it.
September 8th, 2017 at 12:46 PM ^
Was there a single player before Edwards who had to earn the #1 jersey? Carr used it as motivation for Braylon, likely because he thought he needed it after not "being on the same page". Since Braylon left, only Funchess has switched to #1.
Hoke followed it. He also apparently let himself get pushed around by Brandon; Nussmeier, the stake at MSU.
