These three deserving players will represent Michigan at B1G Media Days.

Love this. All three are solid leaders. When will the team vote on captains? I'm assuming Cole is the offensive captain (my other vote would be for hammering panda) and on D it'd be Big Mo, but McCray is certainly deserving as well.

I would say McCray on defense but Speight should be the captain of this offense because our season success will largely depend on his leadership and production. We want him to lead this team, have a great season and declare for the NFL so the next QB (Peters) can step in next year. Although I wouldn't be mad if he stayed and both he and Peters led us to a National Championship in 2019.

If there is indeed a chance for Peters to win the job (speaking to someone very close to Harbaugh, this is a real possibility), then you don't want your captain sitting on the bench disgruntled. My guess is that Cole will be the offensive captain.

It makes sense to bring Peters along slowly and ride with the experienced game manager in Speight. He will either lead us to victories, or he will struggle in games and we have no choice but to bench him and see if someone else does better that game. Remember most teams have two good QB's in case of injury or in case your main guy is off that day. I think Peters may be as good as advertised but he has little to no real game experience. With all the first year starters we have, do we really want our most important position to be a first year starter too when he doesn't have to be? Last year our QB went 10-3 and I expect him to be better. Let the youngster play in routes, during injury, mop up duty, games where Speight may be struggling and the team needs life support to avoid a loss. Let's not make a fairly difficult season as is, harder to manage with another youngster learning. We already have ??? at OL, WR, and DB. Make Speight lead this team to 14-0. Heavy is the crown and if he's not up to it, Peters will get his shot but Speight needs to lead this team on the field or from the bench!!!!

That's a terrible reason to be a captain.

How about be a captain because you're the leader of that unit?

And do we want that? Or do we want him to have a great season...come back, and have another great season? Not sure you'll find a consensus. Me personally, I just want the best opportunity to win this year, next year, and every year.

Could have sworn that's what I said. Maybe you don't like that in my comment, my optimism for Speight projects him to be so successful that he declares for the NFL? I thought that was why all these kids come here. To prepare themselves for the pros? I think he'd be a great choice for captain he's already playing the most important leadership position, on the team, why not challenge him to make this offense better thru example? If he's successful he should look at all opportunities to make money for his family. Sometimes you guys can be really high-strung over nothing.

Agree completely.

Penn State plays at Northwestern immediately before us (although there is a bye week between). I think given Franklin's crappy coaching ability, losing in Evanston would more likely throw them off the rails rather than the rally around the flag effect we saw in OSU in 2015 after shitting the bed against Sparty.

Another interesting fact: In addition to Michigan, Northwestern is the only team in the Big Ten Franklin-led Penn State has played but never beaten. (Franklin is 0-3 against Michigan, 0-2 against Northwestern, with one loss in State College and one loss in Evanston; in fact, in 2014 NW beat Penn State by 23 points in Happy Valley).

I'd assume so regardless of B1G Media Days. If you're Barkley you have to be thinking:

1. You already have won a Conference Title and gone to the Rose Bowl

2. He will probably be All-American this year and may win some hardware

3. His value is already known and high, RB shelf life is short, and his value depreciates with every carry

4. Stay in BFE Pennsylvania for another year or go make bookoo bucks in Not-BFE-Pennsylvania, USA

If you're a RB with a 1st or 2nd round grade you should never stay in school

Franklin may have a policy of only bringing seniors. But yeah, unless Barkley suffers some traumatic injury that doesn't allow him to play at all this year, he's gone after this season. And no one should blame him.

Best RB in the conference bar none, and arguably the best in the country. Considering the average shelf life of NFL RBs is 2-3 years, he needs to strike while the iron is hot. Especially if he has an All-American type of season.

Great representatives of the team to bring. Very few seniors on this team, so these guys will be relied on very heavily to lead the way for a horde of very talented, but very inexperienced freshmen and sophomores.

I'm guessing at least two of these three gentlemen will be the team captains. My guess is Cole and McCray, with possible other options being Hill (on O) or Hurst (on D).
