Chris Balas on Brandon Peters: "There are recruiting mistakes, and this appears to have been a big one."

Meanwhile Michigan had 4 passing yards in the 2nd half vs IU. I don't really know what to say about this if true, but thought it was extremely noteworthy.

I just don't get it. Speight has never looked like O'Korn did in the Purdue game. John has the possibility of lighting up a defense in a close game or coming from behind. I guess it takes the stars to align for that to happen maybe but Speight doesn't ever even come close to sniffing that idea. That's the facts and don't forget it. O'Korn has fire and can gain momentum at times. Speight just cashes it in.

Bellamy had no business being at Michigan anyway. I would argue that you throw them in early and find out if you have a Morris or a Bellamy and if you do, you can encourage them to transfer somewhere they can play. Hoke should be charged for conspiracy for allowina schoship from UM.

Its true that Bellamy wasn't ready to play, and shouldn't have ever been recruited to Michigan to start with.  But don't place all of the blame for that Nebraska debacle on him.  The entire team lost its collective heart when DRob left the game.  Those first 10 plays were a comedy of errors from his teammates.  There were missed blocks, bad routes, dropped passes, and NO effort to make anything happen.  Bellamy's first several passes were okay.  His teammates screwed him over before he got gunshy and gave up, like his teammates had already done.

A lot of games that both Rich Rod and Hoke coached are highlighted by a team that quit.  We won't see that bullshit with Harbaugh calling the shots.  So lets stop reminiscing about that shit, and stop berating players that had no decent coaching for 10 years.

Thats on Hoke, those players AND Bellamy, who was supposed to be the leader out there.

Your're a shitty fan and far more disrepectful ot Okorn than many have been around here, excepting WarDog so I wouldn't run my mouth about berating players if I were you.

And about that coaching, who's been coaching these QBs for the past 3 years?

If anything, the Brady Hoke era taught me that "worst case scenario" is just an illusion we convince ourselves of before trying the next thing. In truth, it can *always* be worse. And that's aside from the arrogance it would take for me to be confident that I were correct about going with Peters, whereas Harbaugh were either wrong or had yet to fully think it through.

OP gives us nothing but a single sentence quote. No link, no supporting argument/explanation/context from Balas, just one cherry-picked sentence. I'd be more inclined to think there's something to be highly concerned about if some substantive supporting information had been included. But then again, the OP upvoted himself for his opening post, so I suppose I should just assume a huge recruiting mistake was indeed made by Coach Harbaugh and his staff.

You see, I can be just as convincing by posting it 3 times as he can be by upvoting his own OP. Amirite?

Or making reads. O'Korn can spin the ball too. It's his decision making that has been bad. I'm willing to try Peters, but he's still a redshirt freshman. Obviously Balas has more inside info than I do but it seems insane to say Peters is a bust already unless there are some major attitude issues and he's got one foot out the door already.

The coaches try to flip a ready now QB already commited to another program?  Personally I do not agree, or think Balas has any clue what he is talking about.  I have been to multiple practices and had good friends in Rome with the team.  All of them say the same things: Peters is far and away the best talent at QB, best arm, and very athletic.

Fields, or Lawerence      Or maybe UCLA loses 5 more and DTR?

I believe in this team. I also think there will be some coaching changes at the end of the season. I think our WR core will only get better with time and our offense will be better next season.  If next year we roll out:  Speight > DMac > Peters , I would assume Peters will transfer which is why I would not be surprised if we look to add one more or a grad transfer. Go Blue!

Quarterback has a lot of responsibilities, like making sure guys are lined up correctly and checking into the proper play if the defense shows something... Harbaugh runs a ton of formations and motion plays, which adds complexity. I recall that Peters played out of shotgun exclusively in HS ( maybe I am confusing him with someone else). If that's true, it can take a couple years just to get the proper footwork to hand the ball off and drop back. That's obviously a crucial part of the offense.

This is a terrible excuse. If your offense is so complicated that it means you can't get your best players on the field then I'd say you need to change your offense. Secondly what exactly is JOK running that is too complcated for Brandon Peters? They had 58 passing yards yesterday. He spent all day locking onto his WR's, having no pocket presence, and not being able to read the defense. And here's the scary thought, both Wilton and JOK are in their third year in the system. The fact that they have both been so bad this year tells me there is something wrong with the coaching.
