CBS Sports: Shea Patterson details scope of Ole Miss deception in lengthy letter to Michigan

Submitted by copacetic on

CBS has viewed the 9 page letter Shea provided to Michigan officials detailing the timeline of events and allegations against Ole Miss. They don't reveal the details of the letter yet since the case is still ongoing, but there are still some interesting bits in the article.

In a scathing nine-page rebuke of Ole Miss to the NCAA, Patterson begins by saying, "I'm not going to hold anything back …"
In his filing, Patterson said he found "a trustworthy, high-caliber coach" with "values, integrity and leadership qualities" in Michigan coach Jim Harbaugh.
Patterson stated he began having conversations with his father about transferring in the middle of October 2017. When the NCAA dropped the second year of a bowl ban on Dec. 1 that year, "I knew I'd made the right decision to leave Ole Miss."
Patterson spends most of the document describing, in detail, how he was allegedly misled by Freeze and, at times, athletic director Ross Bjork. "It doesn't seem fair to me that the only thing standing in the way of Coach Freeze making $5 million a year at another school was the discovery that he wasn't the trustworthy, straight-laced role model that he claimed to be," Patterson states.

It also sums up some of the other details about the case, most of which I think were discussed here before. And it ends with some info about the man incharge of handling the case, and his linkedin page/qualifications... but says he has no direct role in deciding the case. Worth the read imo

idea if or why the fact that the NCAA case manager used to be a shift manager at Pizza Hut is relevant, but I find it 100% certifiably spectacular that it was included in the article.

I find it a bit shitty? It's not relevant, that's the thing. Everyone has had a shitty job at some point, and this guy Vaughn is certainly qualified. I don't get why Dodd, other than the established fact that he's an asshole in general, would include that.

And here is the context:

He was in college from 2006-2012

He worked at Pizza hut from 2008-2013

Conclusion? He paid his way through college by working multiple jobs. Although Dodd uses this irrelevant fact to make the NCAA appear incompetent, I've come away having MORE respect for this guy Vaughn, and, well, not sure my level of respect for Dodd can get any lower...

In addition to being a general asshole, Dodd is an asshole in very specific ways, also.  For instance, his writing style is that of an asshole.  He directly attacks people - adminstrators, coaches, and players alike, which is an asshole thing to do.  I also think he looks like an asshole.

I guess he's just very qualified to be called an asshole...

Ann Street store in the late 80's, back when it existed.  Nothing wrong with making your living from pizza.  (Cool story, Bro-I once delivered a pizza to Bo's house.  Shemmy answered the door, Bo came and gave me the money.  Excellent tip!  Thanks, Bo...)

It would have been more relevant to note that he was a shift manager during the all-you-can-eat Pizza Hut lunch rush. The way Americans attack that buffet and the mental dexterity required of a manager to keep it stocked is stunning...

it is sad when a fired coach can go to another school. it is real sad when a player can not. just remember this will set the ground rules for the ncaa. hope it all works out for this young kid.

quote from Ross Bjork, the Ole Miss AD, actually looks like it goes a little bit further than indicated earlier and almost reads as though they are not objecting at this point.

It was looking questionable for a minute but it sure is looking like Patterson will be able to play this year.

They only quoted the second of his lines here.  His first line was basically that there's no new information in Michigan's response.  The line about "we have no objection if X, Y, Z" is borderline sarcasm -- he's stating that it's Ole Miss's position that X, Y, Z are so self-evidently inapplicable that they're not wasting their time debating the issue.

It's along the lines of "I have no problem with this guy marrying my daughter, providing that he really is the multimillionaire philanthropist and Nobel Prize winner he claims to be."

It'd be fun but I don't envision it happening anytime soon. That would require either:

a) Meeting in a bowl game, and considering the devil has come to collect his due in Oxford, I don't envision Ole Miss leaving the basement of the SEC and making respectable bowls anytime soon. Or:

b) A home-and-home. Ole Miss likely believes that there is nothing that exists north of the Mason-Dixon line, so asking them to come to Ann Arbor would be an exercise in futility.

I'm hoping Shea's Appeal is granted. I'm encouraged by all the positive reports. I'm encouraged by Coach Browns comments @ Shea. Hoping For Best.
That Being Said, On It's Face, I Do Not Understand How Shea's Lawyer can ethically represent Shea & His Former Coach, unless Shea Coach & University Waived Conflict of Interests????
