Big Ten officiating is atrocious
16 penalties for 141 yards on Michigan and many of them of the dubious variety compared to 5 for 55 yards on IU. Multiple uncalled holds, multiple uncalled pick plays, multiple uncalled intentional groundings. Either big ten refs are incompetent or corrupt but the result is the same. Refs nearly handed IU the game. Not saying UM played perfect (they clearly didn't), but that was bad.
UPDATE: BTN just said the 16 penalties is an all time record.

Last play of the game could have been a hold against us. I am not complaining.
October 14th, 2017 at 4:25 PM ^
kept waiting for the flag to come out. There were multiple holds by Michigan that were more egregious than earlier calls. Thanks for something refs.
That being said Michigan's DEs got brought down from behind a 6+ times after getting around the tackles. Not one called, and the amount of weak penalties on Michigan was ridiculous. The flag for holding by Cheeseman was out barely after he had even snapped the ball.

October 14th, 2017 at 4:28 PM ^
have two handfuls of jersey, and a DB in the backfield had a fistful, which shouldn't be called but was multiple times earlier. Never know with these refs today.

mccray def held. i actually cursed at the TV when I saw it mid-play expecting a flag.

I had to grab my drink!
October 14th, 2017 at 4:42 PM ^
both outside receivers ran pick plays, they initiated the contact. players are going to use their hands before the ball is thrown. refs suck both ways and their is no excuse for such lopsided calls.

The way the game was being called, I had to pause for a second after every play just to make sure I was allowed to show my emotion for that play.
October 14th, 2017 at 4:31 PM ^
Glad I wasn't the only one. Especially after the final play... I sat there waiting for the flag.
October 15th, 2017 at 8:38 PM ^
I was there and after every positive play we had we would scan the field for flags I never witnessed a game like that. One play had 3 flags for 3 different penalties. Final stat of 16 penalties doesn't count the ones turned down
October 14th, 2017 at 4:19 PM ^
Yea we made some shit plays but it's not enjoyable to watch that flag throwing contest. I watch PI go uncalled every other game and then all of a sudden when Michigan does the tactic everyone is employing now a days it gets called. It's shit. And thanks ABC for the replays on many of them so we could judge them after the fact.

The DPJ hold where the DE just straight picked him up off the ground while he was hanging on?
This game seemed a bit too big for that crew. The dude with the "C" on the back of jersey got as much camera time today as Higdon. I thought they sucked both ways, but one of their long drives in the 2nd qtr was nothing but penalty yards.
October 14th, 2017 at 4:25 PM ^
at 10 missed calls on Indiana. So from memory, I saw....
2 Blocks-in-back on returns
3 Holds, O-line
3 Intentional groundings
1 personal foul
1 PI
Not even counting the "rub" routes

One was correctly no-called, one was borderline but probably a good no call, but the third one thrown to the middle of the field with the closest receivers 15 yards away was a terrible missed call.

I'll bet you any amount of money Brian dedicates an "officials were garbage" section to the recap on Monday or the UFR. Bet.

He will and he should. That crew was in way over its head.

They were an order of magnitude worse than the O'Neil crew last week, and that's saying a lot. And Brian talked about the refs from last week...I would be shocked if he didn't after today. M was quite undicsiplined and they missed some crucial calls that hurt IU...but as the game wore on they were consistently calling things (or not calling things) that directly benefitted IU. That PI in OT was garbage, and there were multiple uncalled groundings. One of them was egregious too.

The uncalled pick play on Indiana's TD was unbelievable, and there were several uncalled holds on their last drive.
That said, most of Michigan's penalties were earned.
October 14th, 2017 at 4:36 PM ^
are unacceptable, theres been how many now the last 2 games? The defense being offsides is frustrating but with their aggressiveness is understandable. False starts need to stop but JBB and Wheatley are still relatively inexperienced.

October 14th, 2017 at 4:29 PM ^
Not entirely. The run game has looked strong against two straight stout defenses. Imagine how much better it will be when the other team isn't laughing at our passing attack.
October 14th, 2017 at 4:43 PM ^
Stout???
Hardly. Indiana is 68th in the nation against the run.

Dude. Refs don't just call 16 phantom penalties. That was totally on us, minus a few calls.
October 14th, 2017 at 4:22 PM ^
Dude, they did. It's football, you can call a penalty on every play if you wanted to. That game was bullshit.
