Beaver: Hackett taking a run at Harbaugh through the 49ers
longtime user Paly33 posted this in the thread below this one.
Don't want to start a new thread for this but over on Scout board, (GBW writer Tom) Beaver claims that one of his sources has a friend close to SF situation that Hackett will be making a major move for JH "through the 49ers". It would be bigger than what we would've thought was possible.
WHAT DOES IT MEAN

And hope the Niners office didn't watch Funchess' last 11 games of the year.

Funchess isn't lining up against Richard Sherman and Patrick Peterson.

It could allow for an immediate announcement of Jim Harbaugh as the next Head Coach of the Michigan Wolverines effective 24 hours after the conclusion of the SF 49ers last game of the 2014 season.

Bingo, Hackett has been planning meticously since he's been hired.

Oh fuck this know. Interested and listening does not equal a good chance. I bet if you asked Brian he would say at best 50% people are getting their hopes up way too high for someone being willing to listen to an offer.

So far the best evidence any of us has is like 3rd hand information through our favorite Michigan rumor source. Rumors fly during times like this and a lot of them end up being bull. I'm not even thinking about buckling up without a lot more information...or any real information at all.

For safety only

I would think that the huge financial implications of a falling attendance at home games will motivate a massive outlay to get the right coach. And quite rightly, too.

depends on whether the rumored college clause in his deal exists or not
if no, he'd have to be bought out
December 3rd, 2014 at 11:35 PM ^
Why would he be contacting SF directly? What happened to patience and discretion that he was just urging the fanbase YESTERDAY?
This report seems dubious on a number of levels.

It doesn't make a whole lot of sense.

We trade Gerg's stuffed beaver to the niners in exchange for Harbaugh. It's a fair trade.

Indeed. It makes people with bad musical tastes hard-pressed to come up with an insult that actually hits home.

I'll take it.

NO! Anything but that!
December 3rd, 2014 at 11:53 PM ^
that values me highly...
December 3rd, 2014 at 7:22 PM ^
It actually might.
Imagine an agreement being negotiated where the 49ers allow Harbaugh to sign a contract with Michigan but stay on as coach for the rest of the season. In exchange Michigan agrees to pay the final year of Harbaugh's contract.
It's a win for the 49ers because it costs them nothing to get rid of Harbaugh and they no longer have to deal with the media circus being a distraction. It's a win for Michigan because obviously.
Now I don't know if this is actually feasible, but it's at least interesting. And with no real information it's fun to speculate.
December 3rd, 2014 at 7:24 PM ^
What would be the point of doing that? Michigan could just wait until the 49ers season is over, sign Harbaugh, and pay what they need to pay without ever talking to the 49ers.
December 3rd, 2014 at 7:27 PM ^
That's almost four weeks of waiting. The heat on the athletic department is going to start escalating rapidly as the weeks pass and no coach is hired.
December 3rd, 2014 at 7:35 PM ^
Okay, but again, if Michigan and Harbaugh both want the deal done now, what's stopping them from just having him leave the 49ers? And why would they 49ers agree to have him publicly sign a contract with Michigan right now, potentially jeopardizing their ability to get into the playoffs?
December 3rd, 2014 at 7:42 PM ^
Bobby Petrino burned every single bridge he had in the NFL by doing that. Literally all of them. He will never work in the league again, even as a position coach or a scout.
Plus it's a dick move that a professional like Jim wouldn't make.

The contract wouldn't have to be signed publicly. Something tells me Hackett would be fine dealing with the heat from the fan base if Harbaugh is signed.
December 3rd, 2014 at 7:50 PM ^
True, but the point I'm trying to make is that their really isn't any reason for the 49ers to participate in this kind of negotiation. They risk the news leaking and it hurting their playoff hopes, and they don't get anything in return.
