and I was told no heavy weight lifting for 4 weeks, then slowly get back into it over the next two weeks. He said I could do some cardio stuff after two weeks but no strength training whatsoever.

I would be curious what "full activity" means to your doctor. I can't imagine Solomon will be allowed back into the weight room for full strength condition for at least 4 weeks. I could see light contact and cardio work after 2 weeks but not full activity.

Opens are reserved for when there are other associated problems (abscess, perforation, retrocecal position, etc.) and take much longer to heal.  Drains may have to left in for days. Think weeks if all goes well. Laproscopic is reserved for non-complicated appendectomies and likely would cause a normal person 1-2 weeks to recover fully.  Football shape maybe longer. These estimates are if there are no subsequent complications. Fortunately CT and US permit earlier and more accurate diagnosis and laps are most common.

You're point re: "football shape" is key here when we're talking recovery. While a laproscopic procedure is definitely less invasive, its important to keep in mind that it still involves 2 or 3 incisions, and these incisions are made in your core muscles. No matter your sport, the core is vitally important as it connects to and affects numerous other muscles. And yes, even 300 lb DTs with a little cushion in the mid section have strong core muscles.

Me three, about 15 years ago. Felt like a pair of red-hot pliers were gripping my side, and every once in a while, somebody would give them a twist. Until that point, I always thought the concept of "passing out from the pain" was an old wives tale. Not after that.

And then five days in the hospital to fight the spread of infection. That was almost as bad.

I found kidney stones to be worse pain, although my appendix hadn’t quite ruptured (probably would have shortly). I’d had a bout of kidney stones about two months before my appendectomy, and thought the pain was just another kidney stone that didn’t hurt as much. Eventually friends convinced me to go to the ER — thankfully.

Recovery can cause a lot of weight loss. My brother had his out Spring if his junior year in high school and lost 50 lbs. Took him maybe 9 months to gain his muscle and weight back. This was the 80s, and he didn’t have the resources Aubrey has available to him. Could be a set back.

Had mine removed a few years and, it took me a while to bounce back. They nicked a blood vessel on my other side when they went in, and I had a ton of swelling. Running and stretching was a challenge for me for about 12 weeks, and the swelling didn’t all go down until about 3-4 months later. Hope Aubrey’s surgery went better than mine.

For an uncomplicated appendicitis the recovery is straightforward. Please stop with the anecdotal “when I had mine removed, my video game overweight self took 7 years to recover” montages. His was most likely a lap appy with minimal downtime.

Four...my problem is it didn't hurt enough so no one thought appendix. Fortunately stayed local when it burst...worth a night on the table and a week in the hospital which a morphine drip made very tolerable,

I had a burst appendix when I was 8. Started as a really bad stomach ache and my dad thought I was faking to get out of going to school. When it persisted we went to the doctor and I was misdiagnosed. A couple days later went back to the doctor and he still had no clue. Another doctor was walking by the exam room and my doctor asked him to take a look. The other doctor came in, put 2 fingers in my appendix/stomach area and said get this boy to the hospital right away. Emergency appendectomy and 2 week stay in the hospital. Apparently I was pretty close to death if I hadn’t gotten the surgery right away. I didn’t mind as I played excite bike and tecmo bowl for 2 weeks on the Nintendo my family wheeled in for me. Cool story bro and all
