In news that is surely not to draw an unbelievable amount of attention, which is surely not the point in the first place, Michigan, the BTN, and Amazon have announced they've partnered for as-yet-unnamed documentary to be released for Prime members in January. Press release ahoy:

The University of Michigan, The Montag Group, Big Ten Network and Amazon have partnered on a behind-the-scenes documentary series about the 2017 Michigan football season that will be released on Amazon Prime in January 2018.

"We are proud to partner with Amazon Prime Video in documenting our University of Michigan student-athletes' daily experiences and the lifelong lessons learned both on the football field and in the classroom," said Michigan's J. Ira and Nicki Harris Family Head Football Coach Jim Harbaugh. "We welcome judgment! We embrace this opportunity to showcase our 2017 University of Michigan football team to a vast audience around the world."

"We think documenting this season will reveal that our university and football program are unique environments that equip our student-athletes for success in both academics and athletics," said Warde Manuel, U-M's Donald R. Shepherd Director of Athletics. "We are excited to work with great partners and to break new ground as the first collegiate program to participate in this digital space."

The series will chronicle the happenings of the 2017 season with exclusive, behind-the-scenes footage from college football's winningest program. The cameras will follow Harbaugh, assistant coaches and players throughout the entire season, including access to practice, the university's academic environment and a look into their lives off the field and in the Ann Arbor community.

The BTN has done excellent work with documentary-style shows like The Journey, and Amazon's All Or Nothing series chronicling NFL teams the past couple seasons have been of similar quality. Time to hit up your parents for that Prime password.

On a different note- this new rule where officials can instantly call a 15 yard unsportsmanlike penalty against a coach who comes into the white boundary or on the field is just absurd imo. You're taking away the passion and pageantry and colorfulness of the game by doing this.

It almost made me a Cards fan for the next season. And they also somehow managed to make Jared Goff look halfway competent for the Rams!

So in that vein this should be a nice soft cream puff of a series no matter how the season goes.

The university/ athletic department were really on the fence about this. I'm not directly involved but heard about this possibility over the past few weeks. To my knowledge it was closer to dead than alive but I'm happy it was revived. I believe Michigan powers, intelligently I might add, fought more more control of the final cut.

My initial reaction was "why the hell distract from the season". But then I figured Harbaugh. I trust Jim not to let this interfere with the team, coaching etc.

So this is either going to be a travelog to fame or to ignominious mediocrity. Played out on national television. Jesus! Talk about a "table stakes" bet.

Still I find myself chucking at the whole notion. So okay, in for a penny in for a pound. This will produce a staggering amount of press. I must believe that Jim likes his odds.

+1.  My thoughts exactly.  Trust Harbaugh that he trusts his guys to not let the added spotlight and inevitable pressure get to them.  If anything, we know JH is a "competition" guy and now the soon-to-be-made-public footage is a window on that aspect of the day-to-day.  My initial thought when hearing the news is that this whole thing would be an unnecessary distraction, but knowing how Harbaugh operates this could very well elevate motivation, competition, and individual and team play.  Let's hope so anyway, because if the season turns south, it could backfire spectacularly.  Trust JH.  Trust JH.  Trust JH....

It's cool, I'm sure the "student-athletes" are being compensated for this. Probably in extra education...

That being said.. Can't wait (insert Bart Scott GIF)
