Where are you guys offensively heading into this game?

“Feel really good about it. Guys have really prepared well, got a great gameplan, the focus is there, everything you’re looking for to be successful, so we’re really excited about it.”

Outside a lot of people have questioned you as a young team, what are you guys going to look like. Do you have a little bit of curiosity or anxiousness about what these guys are going to look like in an actual game?

“No. I mean, we feel very confident about the guys that we have. You always kind of wonder how’s the game going to take place, what’s the situation that’s going to come up, the calls that need to be made in critical situations and things but in terms of confidence behind this team, I’m 100% confident in what we have in locker room and the core group of guys that we have. It’s an exciting time.”

Who’s starting on the right side of the line?

“We’re not going to talk about the depth chart today. It’s a good try. Nice job. Keep grinding on that one.”

Are you all settled?

“Yeah, we’re settled.”

You know what you’re going to—

“Yeah, we know. We know, absolutely. You get to this point and this time in camp and you’re ready to kick it off.”

When we talked a few weeks back you said you’d like to have about eight or nine guys in the core rotation. Do you feel good about where those guys are and do you have that?

“Yeah, feel very good about it. These guys have done a great job developing. The coaching staff has done a great job. Feel good about the core guys that we do have, and there’s other guys progressing.”

Jim said during media days that the three of them [Speight, Peters, and O’Korn] are basically tied. What, in your mind, separates one quarterback from another? Not specifically, but whoever wins out, what’s going to be the difference for them?

“We feel that’s the best player for us to win football games with.”

What are your thoughts on ever having multiple quarterbacks play regularly?
”I think you could do that. At times you have different packages and things. Going into a football game you’re always trying to look for the best way to attack the defense and if that’s something that presents a problem for the team that you’re playing then.”

What do you think about this fall that being an option?

“I don’t know yet. It’s so early in camp. We’re still putting this thing together and putting the offensive concepts together and things we’re doing, so we’ll see as we go.”

Jim talked about maybe ten practices or so to decide, to really know on a quarterback. How about offensive line? How long into camp is it before you get a good sense of that?

“It just depends, you know. Could be practice ten, could be practice 12. We just put pads on yesterday and things change when you put pads on. You know, with the competition of hitting and physicality and moving people off the ball and things moving faster. As we go we’ll make that decision.”

[Happy Thanksgiving! We know that three hours ago we said we hoped one article was enough to chew on, but what fits the spirit of the day more than a second serving? Here’s one more to tide you over until tomorrow.]

Thoughts on this defensive football team you’re about to play?

“Very good defensive football team. Up front, very talented, use their hands very well, great initial quickness. Linebackers can run sideline to sideline. Very gifted at the corner spot.  Think they play very good man coverage. The safeties—Mr. Hooker is a very good football player. Very, very talented football team. Very talented defense.”

Seemed like Indiana was having some success getting a little bit of pressure on John [O’Korn] in the last game. What was the factor that was causing that?

“Indiana does a nice job. Indiana going into that game was a big-time pressure team. They had a lot of different looks of what they did. Fundamentally, some of it was in terms of just us moving our feet, keeping our head out of there, covering guys up, IDing things. We’ve got to do a better job with that, and I’ve got to do a better job coaching it.”

How did John progress, in your mind, from the start of that game to the end?

“I think he did an outstanding job. Made a play when there was a play to be made. He managed the game very well. He took the timeouts when he needed to. He established that drive with 9:42 left in the fourth quarter. We took it down, made them use their last time out, gave the ball back with I believe :50 on the clock. John did an outstanding job.”
