Question about depth chart by class
On this site we have guys like:
McKeon, Eubanks, Dwumfour, Kemp, Uche and Long all listed as RS Sophomores even though all of them played their freshmen years. None of them played more than 4 games, but some played beyond the first 4 of the season. As in like late October. Wouldn’t all of these guys be juniors in eligibility because of the old rules? I thought the only way to get a redshirt if you played your freshmen season was if you had a season ending injury in the first four games of the season. And I’ve seen it other places as well. They referenced Uche as a RS sophomore. So don’t all these guys only have one more season or am I missing something?

“Season ending injury” is loosely defined. You could stub your toe, not play the rest of the season and apply for a redshirt and likely get it. Their eligibility is correct in all of their cases.

Ok but McKeon, Long and Kemp all played against Rutgers which is the 6th game. Wasn’t the old rule that you couldn’t get an injury redshirt unless it occurred in the first 4 games?

Especially if you are a Spartan. Those guys get 6th years like candy at Halloween

People have won awards like practice squad player of the week, and still received redshirts for their "season ending injuries".

Before the redshirt rule was changed it was four out of the first six games. Rutgers was game six.
