OT: Multiple Choice Poll: Your Hopes For The 2024 Chargers.
What kind of season are you hoping for when it comes to the 2024 Chargers and why? Do you even care at all? Just curious how others in this community feel about this....I'm not sure where I am yet and may not know until the season actually starts. Yes, Harbaugh will ultimately be judged on the totality of his time coaching the team, but for this specific post I'm only focused on what you want to happen this next season.
1. The team actually gets worse.
2. Same underachieving group, same results.
3. Marked improvement, make the playoffs.
4. Unbelievable turnaround, deep playoff run.
5. Miracle season, Super Bowl champs.
6. Don't care. Yes, I actually mean I will not follow how the Chargers perform and even if someone told me it wouldn't matter to me.
February 13th, 2024 at 12:10 PM ^
6.
He's all in on the Chargers and I'm all in on UM so it doesn't really matter to me.
February 13th, 2024 at 4:34 PM ^
I see a lot of votes for 6 with comments that read 1 - actively rooting against.
I suggest re-posting this question after the draft. I believe Jim wants Team 144 players on his team just as he wants to try to keep the same energy & focus going by bringing many of the coaches with him.
I've asked before in threads blasting JH & wishing ill upon the Chargers if those people will still say that if Corum or Sainristil or Barrett, Roman, Jenkins, Keegan or Zinter were on LAC?
I know my vote would change from like #2 to #4 if Blake & Mikey were Chargers!
February 14th, 2024 at 10:30 AM ^
The thing is, in the Superbowl, I was pulling for Moody and excited for him when he (temporarily) held the SB record for longest field goal. But I wasnt rooting for the Niners.
I suspect I will feel the same way with JJ, Blake etc. I'm a Lions fan, so its hard for me to be a fan of another entire franchise
February 14th, 2024 at 3:24 PM ^
I mean the reality is most of us are either Lions or like me don't care about the NFL period. And if someone was going to root for an NFL team or care about the NFL based on former UM players and coaches you would pretty much have to be a fan of every team and that is quite frankly nonsensical.
February 13th, 2024 at 12:11 PM ^
Borderline 6. I will probably pay attention, but I very much do not care.
Go Lions.
February 13th, 2024 at 1:04 PM ^
This right here. I'll check to see how they're doing, I may even watch a couple games, but I won't really care.
February 13th, 2024 at 12:12 PM ^
5. Why would anyone not root for the man who brought us back to life, let alone won a national championship, seemingly unattainable just a few years ago?
February 13th, 2024 at 12:30 PM ^
He's not here anymore. He's actively hurting our future success by taking coaches with him. Even Chargers "fans" don't care about the Chargers, why should I? The Lions are actually relevant for the first time in the Super Bowl Era.
So long and thanks for all the fish.
February 13th, 2024 at 1:18 PM ^
Agree with this. I have the same view of Harbaugh as he has of Michigan now. He no longer cares about the state of the team, I no longer care if he wins. Best of luck with his endeavors, but my lack of caring has no impact on his potential success.
February 13th, 2024 at 6:39 PM ^
Yeah, I doubt he doesn't care about the state of the team. Just because he's trying to do the best he can to get the Chargers to the SB (which means getting the best coaches/players he thinks will do that for him) doesn't mean he doesn't care about the team any longer.
February 13th, 2024 at 2:45 PM ^
He's actively hurting our future success by taking coaches with him.
This seems a little over the top. Of our ten 2023 assistants, three are joining him in Los Angeles, plus the strength coach. That's not an especially large number for a coach moving on. Minter was likely in line for an NFL DC job regardless of what Harbaugh did, and given that Moore chose not to promote Elston/Clinkscale for Minter's old job, it's probably not shocking they decided to move on.
Herbert is the only departure that is much of a surprise, IMO, but I think we'll be OK with Tress stepping in, given how long the two men worked together.
February 13th, 2024 at 7:29 PM ^
So I guess you don’t think Moore can do the job on his own? You’re mad because Harbaugh didn’t pick him up and drop him squarely on third base by leaving him Harbaugh’s staff? The chances of Michigan winning another National Championship anytime soon are very small. Harbaugh gave you that. It was a miraculous accomplishment. That a supposed Michigan fan could now be mad at him is…I guess…not uncommon, unfortunately.
February 13th, 2024 at 9:07 PM ^
Not mad at Harbaugh, could not care less about the Chargers. If former Michigan players go play for the Chargers, I will wish them well just like I will whatever team they play for, but the team winning or losing is outside my area of concern.
February 13th, 2024 at 12:36 PM ^
Im fine with him reaching his goal quickly, retiring, then taking over as AD at Michigan, while the other coaches come in to fill in roles here at Michigan after Sherrone repeats as National Champs and our coaches get poached again
February 13th, 2024 at 12:47 PM ^
I'm a Michigan fan, a Lions fan, a Tigers fan, a Pistons fan and a Redwings fan. None of those teams are coached by Jim Harbaugh.
February 13th, 2024 at 2:40 PM ^
Funny-so am I.
February 13th, 2024 at 2:08 PM ^
Fully agree. JH pissed me off by taking a few people who could have stayed at UM, like an S&C coach, but Harbaugh put in nine years and got us the ultimate prize which I never expected to see.
I wish him well. I'll probably follow the Chargers more closely now than before.
February 13th, 2024 at 3:12 PM ^
Why would anyone root for people over teams? I won't root against him and I'm not mad he left but put me down as a solid 6. I don't really care how the Chargers do, I'll still root for the Lions. Rooting for a person over a team seems insane to me and highly against pretty much everything coaches teach. I don't root for every NFL team that drafts a Michigan player, this is no different for me. I guess it's cool if he does well but I wasn't rooting for the 49ers because they had Moody kicking field goals. I will root for the Lions and I'll root for any circumstance that helps the Lions. Chargers being in the AFC means I probably won't care one way or the other. 6.
February 13th, 2024 at 4:27 PM ^
Same for me. I hope he eventually gets his Super Bowl ring, but not instantly.
February 13th, 2024 at 12:13 PM ^
1. Let’s hope all the success at Michigan was because of Moore.
February 13th, 2024 at 7:30 PM ^
It wasn’t.
February 14th, 2024 at 1:17 AM ^
At least Moore won against PSU, Maryland, and OSU. No easy task stepping up to be the HC in those tough games and winning them all. Moore is responsible getting Michigan to the B1G championship game! A great start for our new ocach.

They went 5-12 last season, so a Super Bowl would be a lot to ask for. But "marked improvement, make the playoffs" seems very possible, especially with a good draft and some off-season additions. Not discounting the Ben Herbert factor either.
February 13th, 2024 at 1:21 PM ^
That last place NFL schedule helps too.
February 13th, 2024 at 1:35 PM ^
Not to mention they're -$44M cap space is going to make it hard to sign anyone let alone retain their current players.
February 13th, 2024 at 9:22 PM ^
Since most NFL starters have their own strength coach, I wonder if Harbaugh is targeting Herbert at the backups and practice squad. Looking ahead a year or two, getting decent starters at the NFL minimum allows the team to spend the money elsewhere.
On a somewhat related thought, who would you rather have, TJ Hockenson at $17 mil/yr or Sam LaPorta at $2 mil/yr with $15mil left over to spend on free agent talent?
February 13th, 2024 at 12:15 PM ^
Losing Elston, Clink, and Herbert is a little too fresh for me. Ill gain a better perspective after we fill our coaching needs. Im sure Ill come around to rooting for the Chargers if they are in a big game. Just bummed we lost lifetime college guys but I do wish them all the best.
February 13th, 2024 at 12:15 PM ^
Number 2 would shock me considering Harbaugh's track record, so, I'll say 3. Last year, the Chargers underachieved, IMO. They have a decent team.
February 13th, 2024 at 12:15 PM ^
6 -- I do generally follow and care about players' success after they leave here, but it isn't a focus.
Of course, if those players are playing for one of my own pro teams, I very much follow them and care about what they are doing.
I just don't see in me that same level of care happening with coaches who leave here.
His name will be all over the place now and next season, as it has always been, so we will all be well aware of how he and the Chargers are doing.
I'm just not invested in how he and the Chargers are doing.
February 13th, 2024 at 12:19 PM ^
Lose to Lions in Super Bowl.
February 13th, 2024 at 12:44 PM ^
The only answer.
February 13th, 2024 at 12:23 PM ^
6 with the addition of mild curiosity if someone mentioned them to me. I am curious to see if Harbaugh can do it again.
February 13th, 2024 at 12:25 PM ^
3. I would've followed them but the Sunday Ticket is no longer included in my cable package.
February 13th, 2024 at 12:27 PM ^
It's an interesting opportunity as NFL jobs go. He has a quarterback, but otherwise, it's a semi-rebuild there and what's there seriously underperformed (hence the new coach).
They also have a difficult cap situation, which will force some difficult personnel decisions. He will have to work closely with the GM to install pieces of a roster that fits what he wants to do.
Since there are so many talented Michigan players available in the draft, it will be perceived that he wants to bring a few in. So other teams might wheel/deal to grab Michigan players right before he drafts. The draft will be a very challenging experience, given the attention he has received and his new salary level.
I wish him well. I think he wanted to stay here, but changes in the college game, plus the often-weak protection and support he received from the school changed how he felt. He brought the championship trophy to Ann Arbor - that makes him a hero in my mind forever.
I'd like to see 3. Under the circumstances, 3 is a lot to hope for, so I'd pick 7 - Improvement into the 8-9 win range, maybe short of the playoffs in a difficult division in the better conference.
February 13th, 2024 at 7:32 PM ^
Harbaugh won’t be going out of his way to draft Michigan players. Like everyone else, the Chargers will be drafting the best available or the best available at a position of particular need.
February 13th, 2024 at 9:04 PM ^
That's like saying he won't go out of his way to hire coaches from his championship team, he'll hire the best coaches.
Well - we now know he thinks those were the best coaches he could get. Does not compute that he wouldn't feel the same about the players.
My guess says he'll value Blake Corum & Mikey Sainristil (especially, but not limited to) more highly than their perceived draft slot, i.e. more highly than other teams will.
I don't know how many or which picks LAC have, but I'm saying they'll take Corum in the early 3rd, Sainristil in the early 4th, maybe Keegan in the 5th, Barnhart in the 6th-7th - should they be there. Not saying he'll move a lot of draft capital to attain them, but I can see him moving up a few spots for Corum. Wouldn't you?!
February 13th, 2024 at 12:28 PM ^
7. Other. I'm curious to see what happens, but won't be investing anything other than casual observation.
February 13th, 2024 at 12:30 PM ^
I curious to see how Minter does in the NFL more than anything.
February 13th, 2024 at 12:29 PM ^
6-ish
It only will matter to me if and when the Lions play the Chargers. They're not scheduled to face each other during the 2024 season.
February 13th, 2024 at 12:30 PM ^
I'd like to see Harbaugh, Minter, Elston and Clink do well. You never know when you might need an accomplished coach with Michigan connections. I'm guessing #3, but also #6 because I really don't care about the Chargers (and I used to live in LA.)
February 13th, 2024 at 12:33 PM ^
5.
I live in Kansas City and although Mahomes has not even made it to the halfway mark of THE GOAT he is being anointed.
February 13th, 2024 at 12:34 PM ^
2. Don't care if it is petty to hope it doesn't work
