Devin Funchess makes history
Like…. He did somethin’?
Yes. He signed a pro basketball contract. He also had 2,265 receiving yards as a pro.
From the link:
Funchess has been on a lifelong journey to fulfill three promises he made to his grandfather, James Hester, when he was younger. Funchess told his grandfather that he would win a Super Bowl, play professional basketball and then become a farmer.
After his basketball years, he can head over to X-M’s place and help out on the back 40.

He should ask Darko Milicic for advice...
I have a sweet UM game worn jersey patch swatch auto card of his that might be worth something now heh (other than fond memories to me)
Good for him! With all of the conversion stories like Antonio Gates and Tony Gonzalez, I'm legitimately surprised it hasn't happened before.
Again?
"The 29-year-old has agreed to a deal with the Caribbean Storm Llaneros"
I feel like this can't be right. The llanos (as may be familiar to Mike Duncan listeners from the South America revolutions) are the lowlands in the interior mostly of Colombia and Venezuela between the Amazon and the Andes, so opposite side of the country from the Caribbean. Wikipedia says there used to be a llaneros team but there's currently the Caribbean Storm Islands so presumably he plays there in San Andres, which is also interesting as those islands are really far from the mainland of Colombia, and I don't think many people live there, but I could be wrong.
Funchess was always open, still is
Bunches of Funchess.
Maybe it’s like the Utah Jazz or Los Angeles Lakers. Or the Clippers (named for the ships of San Diego harbor). Or the Memphis Grizzlies.
Or the Michigan Wolverines (regionally extinct because people suck).
Good for him!
Thanks for posting.
Awesome that he had such a close relationship with his grandpa and that he's getting a chance to chase his goals in life. Best of luck to him!
Who played both sports at Michigan? Ron Kramer, Elroy Hirsch, Paul Jokisch, Kelvin Grady - who else?
Tai streets
Maybe Seth Smith?
Tom Harmon played basketball for two years.
Jermaine Gonzales
Mike Leach could hoop.
Taco Pants
Mike Jones
Who?
Mike...er, YOU!
Also…in other news…Tate Forcier signed with a professional Laser Tag team out of Luxembourg.
And Shea Patterson announced he is joining the Professional Disc Golf Association tour.
Too soon?
We just won a national championship & have been big ten champs 3 years in a row. You're timing is perfect.
So is you’res
Disc golf is surprisingly super fun.
Just don't call it frisbee golf. The aficionados don't appreciate that.
I read this as "Professional Disco golf association "
The world needs this...
Sounds more Norfleet.
Interesting story, thanks for sharing.
THAT’S JUST A STATISTIC.
Underrated comment.
Dude can jump. See avatar for proof.
There are a few guys I really wish could have been on one of these great teams and funchess is one. I just always really liked the kid and could you imagine if he was on one of these 21-23 teams?
I figured he made his 1st recorded downfield block.
